Amazon.com The movie is a 1970s take on 1950s musicals, providing all the kitsch anyone could hope for. It's John Travolta as Danny Zuko as Olivia Newton-John's pompadoured main squeeze, and the kids go crazy. Fresh from his astronomical success with Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, Bee Gee Barry Gibb penned the title track (sung by Frankie Valli). Sha Na Na is over-represented, and actress Stockard Channing struts her, um, versatility, singing a couple of tracks. This has become a touchstone in American culture, and so isn't likely to improve our standing in the world's eyes. Maybe the point is that it's supposed to sound amateurish, but it does manage to eke out some fun, most notably on the hit "You're the One That I Want." --Scott Wilson
FIND A PENNY PICK IT UP.....Review Date: 2009-12-22 Rating: 10 out of 10Moments after purchasing this soundtrack, I had chills that started multiplying, and I felt I was losing control. The power it was supplying
was electrifying to say the least. I thought that I better shape up cause...I needed something to set my heart on. Thought I better shape up,
understand, to my heart I MUST be true. Nothin' left, nothin' left for me to do. This is the one that I want!! Filled with affection to shy
to convey, meditate in some direction and feel my way. Am I sure? Yes, I'm sure deep down inside!!
My story is a sad story to tell, once a teenager ne'er do well. Most mixed up delinquent on the block. My future's so unclear, what's left of
my career now. Can't even get a trade-in on my smile. I'm a beauty school drop-out, no graduation day for me. Beauty school drop-out, missed
my midterms and flunked shampoo!! Well at least I could have taken time to wash and clean my clothes up after spending all that dough to have
the doctor fix my nose up.
Guess mine is not the first heart broken. My eyes are not the first to cry, I'm not the first to know, there's just no getting over you. Hello,
I'm just a fool who's willing to sit around and wait for you. But...baby can't you see, there's nothin' else for me to do I'm hopelessly
devoted to you. But NOW there's nowhere to hide since you pushed my love aside I'm not in my head.
With this soundtrack, you'll be coasting through the heat lap trails!!
ReviewsokayReview Date: 2009-09-24 Rating: 4 out of 10I wasn't to happy with this soundtrack. The quality of the recordings are not great, the music is scrambled all over the place -- it left me dissapointed. I am a huge Grease fan. That's the saddest part.A ClassicReview Date: 2009-09-21 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a soundtrack from Grease, and it has all the great music. I really enjoy this CD.Generally good sound quality but not all tunes are keepersReview Date: 2009-08-25 Rating: 6 out of 10The movie was terrific, but I only found some of the music worth ripping. I generally prefer original hits by original artists. I wasn't that impressed with Sha-Na-Na's renditions of past hits.
My first interest was for danceable numbers. Movie soundtracks can have tempo changes and undanceable introductions and endings, but those sections can be removed after ripping.
I found a couple reproduction glitches. There is a tic (like a record scratch) in "Mooning", and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" cuts off too soon.
The nine tunes I ripped were: Grease; Summer Nights; Hopelessly Devoted to You; You're the One that I Want; Beauty School Dropout; Greased Lightnin'; Blue Moon (because it's a slow version); Mooning; and We Go Together.
FYI, I'm a record collector of 55 years and a sometimes deejay.Awesome!Review Date: 2009-07-25 Rating: 10 out of 10When I saw Amazon's special for $2.99 I was like WOW really!! When I started listening to Frankie Valli's "Grease" I was taken back in time and started singing to all the songs from the album!! My favorite is Olivia & John's "You're the One that I Want" for sure!!! You'll enjoy this soundtrack whether you've seen it on Broadway or watched the original movie itself!
