Product Details/SpecificationsRecording label: Interscope Records EAN: 0602517414600Binding: Audio CDRelease Date: 2007-08-14Universal product code (UPC): 602517414600Number of discs: 1Album Description DAVEY HAVOK/JADE PUGET: TWO BOYS IN LOVE WITH SYNTHESISERS & SOFTWARE BLAQK AUDIO, the electronic side project of AFI's Davey Havok and Jade Puget, will finally see the light of day in the form of the debut album CexCells. Recorded by the band in between AFI's extensive touring for DECEMBERUNDERGROUD and mixed by Dave Bascombe (Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Placebo), CexCells expands upon and fully indulges the dark electronic textures and influences increasingly prevalent in AFI's recent work. The results range from evocation of prima era Depeche Mode and early Ministry ("Stiff Kittens," "Bitter for Sweet," "Where Would You Like Them Left?") to four on the floor club-friendly fare ("On a Friday," "Snuff on Digital") to vulnerable balladry ("Wake Up," "The Fear"). The common thread running through all of BLAQK AUDIO's material-Havok's signature dark vocal and lyrical stylings combined with Puget's epic, emotional arrangements -will be instantly identifiable to AFI fans, despite the synthetic washes, keyboard flourishes and electronic beats supplanting the traditional guitar /bass/drum AFI frame work.
Sex CellsReview Date: 2009-12-24 Rating: 10 out of 10B;aqk Audio has a unique sound, blending different types of electronica with different blends of beats, to make a background that sounds superb. Even more than that, howeve,r is what they do with their vocals. Instead of going with the dry styles that many bands seem to adopt these days, Blaqk Audio takes their normal sound and mixes it up, sometimes delivering a smooth transitional set of vocals and sometimes taking and distorting their work. The end result of this is a different sound and a different vocal setup on each song, making both the sound and the speed stay in a state of flux.
In Cex Cells, the band takes this and plays with it on quite a few tracks, making an album that I think is their finest. On Stiff Kittens, for example, they have a beat with speed mixed into it, and they have a beat that goes through three or more changes. This makes the song catchy and unique all at once, making it something I really like listening to. The same goes for other songs on the album as well - on Between Breaths you hear a beat that mingles with a bit of raspy breqathing and, on Snuff on Digital, you have a song with an EBM identity but with a different set of vocal systemics. This means that the voice always stays sexy, the music always stays good, and everything sounds catchy.
If you want to get something that has a good kick to it, this is your album. You will certainly find it appealing.
ReviewsCexCellsReview Date: 2009-10-18 Rating: 4 out of 10Meh...is the only fesable sound I can use to describe this album. Two 'hardcore' punks trying to make an album of synth pop to rival Depesh Mode's greatest work. That clearly didn't work out. Davey Havok doesn't succeed with this style of music. While his voice works perfect his style and lyrics fail. Jade Pudget, well as a guitarst he is decent, but as a producer/engineer, he is not qualified.
'Stiff Kittens' 'On A Friday' 'Semiotic Love' and 'Again, Again, and Again' are the only worth while tracks on the entire album. Sex may sell but this doesn't.WowReview Date: 2009-02-27 Rating: 8 out of 10My two favorite bands are Depeche Mode and AFI. If there was ever hybrid, this would be it. Great album. For lovers of electro/industrialReview Date: 2008-11-26 Rating: 8 out of 10Afi's Davey Havok and Jade Pugent have come together to make this fabulous electronic album that emcompasses both their strong points, Daveys vocals and jades art of writing and mad beats! Has a certain 80's feel to it in some places.Amazing Album...more addictive than heroine!!Review Date: 2008-08-30 Rating: 10 out of 10Love this album...can't stop listening to it.
