In the 1800s sailors traveled to Spain carrying a hot new rhythm from Cuba: Rumba. Gypsies took this infectious dance rhythm and created their own hybrid: "Rumba Flamenco." 150 years later, Jesse makes it a round trip by bringing Rumba Flamenco back to its roots, but modernized in what might be his strongest work yet. Jesse melds his trademark rumba flamenco style with the music of Cuba, Haiti and Columbia, among others. With all of the dazzling instru- mental pyrotechnics he employs, Jesse's emphasis is always on the melody and the infectious rhythms that make him an airplay favorite. Amidst all of his dazzling, soulful original compositions, Jesse adds as a special highlight a spectacular arrangement of Paul Simon's classic "Cecelia", an adaptation that is as creative and catchy as anything he's ever recorded.

ReviewsGet Up and Dance!Review Date: 2010-08-17 Rating: 10 out of 10The virtuosity of Jesse Cook and infectious joy of the music make this one of my all-time favorite albums. As I am currently using it in my car, I have to ignore the pull to dance. I'd love to see a concert some time. I have been shamelessly forcing this album on anyone willing to give it a listen - they always love it.Discovering Jesse CookReview Date: 2010-08-16 Rating: 8 out of 10I am only now discovering Jesse Cook, but hope to hear/find more of his Latin-inspired music. This is a delightful CD, with clever arrangements and some terrific playing by Cook. The number Bogota by Bus is probably something everyone has heard by now--it is an irresistible instrumental that combines fun Latin rhythms and a dose of playful sensuality.
However. For me, the inclusion of that antique lemon, Cecilia, was very strange. Hence, four stars, not five. Yes, yes, I know, I'm disparaging all the Cecilias out there--but the song was never that great. Even when done by that much admired duo of days gone by. I think this song strikes a very false note on this CD, and is totally out of place. Had it been rendered as an instrumental, it would have made a lot more sense. With Cook's clever fingers, it could have even become another amusing number, like Bogota by Bus.Amazing musicReview Date: 2010-07-26 Rating: 10 out of 10I have never heard Jesse Cook's music before. Jesse's music is amazing and capturing. From the moment I started listening to this CD, I can't stop for a few weeks already. There is a guitar, there is a latin vibe in the music, so it is exactly what I was looking for. I liked some compositions better than others, but overall, I would recommend for anybody who likes instrumental and latin music.Great soundsReview Date: 2010-06-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Another great CD to add to our collection.
